FOUR candidates are in the running to succeed Mick Tuohy as Worcester City's first team coach.

Manager John Barton is likely to appoint someone from outside the club to take on the role, and has already identified potential targets although he could wait until the summer before appointing someone.

Tuohy was axed ahead of Saturday's 4-0 Dr Martens Premier Division win over Nuneaton Borough after more than four years in the post.

Barton said that he needed to "freshen things up" at the St George's Lane club.

Chairman Dave Boddy said: "John has four candidates in mind, three of whom are currently involved with other clubs.

"It might be that he waits until the end of the season before making an appointment."

But Boddy stressed: "It won't be a decision that comes from the board of directors -- it is a decision John will make.

"He appoints his own staff."

Former Hereford United boss John Newman has returned to the club to assist Barton on a temporary basis but does not want to take on the post permanently.

Meanwhile, Worcester midfielder David Foy has been sent out on loan to Western Division side Halesowen Town for a month to help build up his fitness.

Foy, who has been sidelined for over a month following a groin operation, has started just 12 games this season, and also missed a large chunk of last season with a knee injury.

City's Worcestershire Senior Cup semi-final at home to Halesowen has been fixed for Monday, March 1 (7.45).
