MURDER squad detectives hunting the killer of skydiver Stephen Hilder say they are still uncovering new information - seven months after he died.

Officers are baffled by the motive behind the killing of the 20-year-old, from Stretton Sugwas, near Hereford, who plummeted to his death in July last year after his parachute and reserve were sabotaged.

Police say that despite numerous appeals for information, they have only just been told that having jumped at Netheravon on the Sunday prior to his fatal jump in Hilbaldstow, North Lincolnshire, Mr Hilder's parachute was packed by a woman working on the site.

"It's incredible that details such as these are still being unearthed, seven months into the investigation," said Det Supt Colin Andrews, who is leading the investigation.

"Despite all the media appeals and the times we have stressed we want any information about Stephen and his parachute rig - however small - this has only just come to light.

"This demonstrates there is still work to do and the detectives on the case will continue to pursue their inquiries.

"There are still people out there, who, for whatever reason, have not told us snippets of information that may be important to the inquiry and we need to keep digging.

Mystery

"One of those bits of information may be the vital clue we need to solve this mystery."

A team of detectives also attended the British Parachute Association (BPA) annual general meeting in Leicester at the weekend where they addressed all visitors.

Officers say a number of people spoke to them offering pieces of information about Mr Hilder.

"I must reiterate my appeal to people out there in the skydiving community and elsewhere that we need to have every scrap of information there is about Stephen," said Dept Supt Andrews.

"If you know anything let us know and leave it to us to decide whether or not it is relevant to the investigation."
