THE MP for Studley, John Maples, unveiled exciting new plans at Studley Community Infant School on Friday which will transform the 90-year-old school into one of the most unique buildings in the village.

The school, tucked away behind shops in High Street, will be the focus of a £900,000 county-funded development forming a new "bracelet" of classrooms around the original building.

The curved foundation-stage wing will feature two reception classes, a practical area, a new nursery and an extra classroom, all joined by covered play areas.

The entrance hall to the building will feature a curved wall displaying the words "Our School" and the grounds redeveloped as a central piazza with exciting creations like a dinosaur jungle, seaside and boat, magical wood and fairytale castle.

Funding for the piazza is still being secured and sponsors are being sought to realise those plans in full.

Headteacher Debbie Price said: "This is a really exciting project which will ensure the building provides the children with a whole new learning experience.

"The building has been designed so rain water will come down the roof into a channel so children can experience the sights and sound of running water.

"The children are really looking forward to the development of the new building, which is set to be completed in September."

Studley County Councillor Helen McCarthy said the new building would be a boon for the architecture of the village.

"Studley is a village where most of the buildings of note have been pulled down," she said.

"This is a chance to put something attractive and extremely practical back into the village and give our youngest children a chance to learn in surroundings that will encourage and support them properly."
