WITH the amount of Press coverage concerning road safety over the last 18 months, it seems absurd that no one ever mentions pedestrians in any other context than as the victim.

Every few days, we see on the TV, adverts from the government telling us to "kill our speed". But when was the last time we saw the Green Cross Code man?

Surely, with all the money spent on speed cameras, traffic calming measures, and advertisements, money should also be spent on educating not only our children, but the majority of adults too, on how to cross the road safely.

It's a sad fact that the majority of people knocked over (in particular city walls road) are crossing within a few hundred yards of a pelican crossing.

Maybe the Government should take note of this. As well as penalising drivers for reckless driving, perhaps pedestrians should be penalised for putting their lives, and the lives of the drivers, at risk - just to save themselves a one-minute walk to the crossing.

Maybe a £60 fine would be appropriate?
