READING Sundeep Kumar's article (Evening News, Wednesday, January 14) confirms my opinion that Worcester's first fixed safety camera at City Walls Road has been set up as a nice little earner to safeguard the continuation of our existing Safety Camera Partnership.
Five serious collisions, fortunately no deaths, apparently all near traffic lights or junctions. How many involved exceeding the 30mph limit?
Did the bus at Silver Street exceed 30mph, or the two cars colliding at the junction with Sidbury Street - I await the full details?
Perhaps red-light cameras would have served more use but I suspect the revenue would be less. Undoubtedly, in the right hands, safety cameras significantly reduce serious injuries and I fully support the installation of cameras where death(s) has been caused by driver(s) exceeding the speed limit.
It's regrettable that our Safety Camera Partnership has alienated so many readers through their "technically correct" interpretation of the DfT rules.
