HEREFORD'S David Park slipped out of contention for the Dunhill Golf Championship at the Houghton Golf Club in South Africa.

After a five under par first round of 67, the Burghill Valley club member could only manage a level par 72 yesterday. This left him eigh shots behind leaderRaphael Jaquelin of France whose rounds of 66 and 65 gave hime a one-shot lead over the rest of the field with 13 under par 131.

Park started his round well with two birdies in the first four holes, but a bogey four on the par three sixth was followed by a disastrous double bogey at another par three, the twelfth.

Ireland's Peter Lawrie and Marcel Siem of Germany were Jaquelin's closest challengers, just one behind on 12 under par.

Then came Soren Hansen of Denmark and Scotland's Alan McLean a further shot back.

England's rejuvenated Ryder Cup star Lee Westwood failed to maintain the promise of his first round 68 and could only manage a a 70 to leave him on six under par.
