A WOMAN lay trapped in her car for 45 minutes after suffering serious pelvic and leg injuries when her vehicle crashed into a tree in Worcestershire.

The 30-year-old, who has not been named and is thought to be from the Evesham area, was air-lifted to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham, after being freed from her white Ford Fiesta by firefighters.

The crews had to force the driver's door open and use a hydraulic ram to push away the car's dashboard, which had crushed the woman's legs.

The incident, which also involved a blue Honda CRV, happened at around 12.30pm yesterday just outside Birlingham, near Pershore, on the A4104 towards Defford.

The driver of the Honda did not require any hospital treatment.

"It was a reasonably serious accident," said Evesham fire station officer Steve Fellows, whose crew attended the scene with another unit from Pershore.

The road was closed in both directions for three hours while debris was cleared and crash investigators analysed the scene.

Police have asked anyone who witnessed the incident to call them 08457 444888, quoting 199S/230104.
