PETER Luff is keen to boost capacity on the Cotswold rail line, but he was taken back by a suggestion from Transport Minister Kim Howells.
He suggested building four extra tracks for the line - which would take vast amounts of time and money to complete.
It transpired, however, that Dr Howells had got over-excited when he said: "Laying four tracks is not inexpensive - it is a very, very expensive thing to do."
Peter checked he was hearing correctly and Dr Howells realised the blunder.
"I am sorry - two tracks. I shall certainly ask the SRA what part the project might play in any strategy it cares to come up with for services to Worcester in the future."
Afterwards, Peter, (Pictured left) said: "I do think that two tracks would be sufficient."
