WORCESTER Wolves Basketball Club's players are being urged to forget their impending cup final and concentrate on picking up vital league points.

Wolves, fresh from reaching the Patrons Cup final last weekend, have an important double-header this weekend as they defend their unbeaten record in the National League Division Two.

They take on Oxford Devils at University College Worcester tonight (7pm) before a tough trip to London to face Westminster Warriors tomorrow (2.30pm).

Player-coach Rick Solvason doesn't want his table-topping team losing sight of their main target of winning the league title.

He said: "What we can't do is get complacent. The cup final is behind us now until March, and our other goal is to win the league.

"There are some teams only one or two losses behind us so we can't afford any slips. We have to go out and play like we know we can."

Solvason expects third-placed Westminster to provide their sternest test this weekend. He added: "Oxford have lost some of their players and are not doing as well this season so we would expect to beat them.

"Westminster are an aggressive team who play hard and are not going to want to get beaten by us again. It is quite a hostile environment down there and we must not be intimidated by it."

Solvason was delighted with last week's semi-final showing against North-West London, which put Wolves into a cup final for the first time in their short history.

He added: "The players did very well. North-West London came out very strong but the guys held their composure, turned it around and were able to put their stamp on the game."

New signing Renaldo Edmondson is expected to play more of a role in this weekend's games after making his debut last week.

Solvason said: "He was a bit nervous last week but he did some good things and it was a good game to get his feet wet in. Now we have to start expecting things from him. He has the talent to get on the court and we will see more of him as the season goes on."

Wolves have a full squad to choose from although guard Rikki Prince is unavailable for the Westminster match.

The club is still waiting to confirm the date for the Patrons Cup final against Hackney White Heat, which will be played at UCW in March.
