Malvern Hills District Brass Band is looking forward to an eventful year to mark its 25th anniversary.

To celebrate this milestone in its history, the band is organising a number of special events.

Spokeswoman Jenny Cobley said: "We're planning the reunion for May and are currently attempting to get hold of former band members so that we can all get together to celebrate our anniversary."

As well as organising a special summer concert in early June, current band members are also hoping to record a special anniversary CD in the spring, which will be the first ever recording involving the whole band.

The next step for the band will be preparation for the annual National Brass Band Championships, the first stage of which will be held in Burton-on-Trent on March 4.

While the festive season has only just passed, the band is already making plans for next year's Christmas concert, which will again take place at Worcester's Huntingdon Hall.

This year's Christmas concert, on December 6, raised more than £930 for the Macmillan Nurse Appeal.

It followed the highlight of the year for the band - a performance of a specially-written anthem for Olympic rowing champion Sir Stephen Redgrave at Worcester Rowing Club in November.

"We have had a very successful year and are looking forward to a very special year for us," said Jenny. "However, we could always do with new members. We lose a lot to college each September, so we would like to encourage new people to join us."
