POWICK entertained Exel Stars & Garter at their Hospital Lane ground in this Worcester League Division One game and as a result of the win went joint top of the division.
POWICK 1, EXEL STARS & GARTER 0
Within 17 seconds of the start Powick nearly went one up when a through ball by Chris Jones found Phil Skittery but his snap shot was well saved by the Exel keeper.
Exel, with the wind at their backs in the first half, passed the ball around well but could not penetrate the Powick defence of Fish, Boswell, Dunn and Pearson.
In the 25th minute Powick's pressure paid off when they were awarded a free kick just outside the box. Gary Henderson crossed over for Luke Dunn to head home at the far post.
This goal seemed to take the pressure off Powick and they started to settle down and play better passing football.
In the second half Powick's class told and they found more space around the park. However they could not penetrate Exel's defence. There was plenty of honest endeavour by Powick, with little result. Clear-cut chances were at a premium with neither keeper tested.
Man of the match was Jamie Boswell.
Next Sunday Powick are away to Coppertops. Meet Coppertops pub at 9.45am.
Thanks go to Dolphin Bathrooms who sponsor Powick.
