Dudley Brook has been elected as the new chairman of Malvern Civic Society.

Mr Brook, who has been a member of the society for eight years, was officially named as Katherine Barber's successor at a meeting of the society on Wednesday night.

Mr Brook said he would fill the post for a year until a replacement is found.

He paid tribute to his predecessor's contribution during her seven years as chairman of the society.

A keen artist and naturalist, Mr Brook has been involved in several local organisations. He was the chairman of the Malvern Art Club and founder of the Ledbury Naturalist Club and was also a member of the board of the Malvern Hills Conservators for 20 years.

"The Civic Society does a lot of good work on behalf of the town, and I will do my best as chairman," he said.

"We have a strong committee this year and have recently welcomed four new members. However, we are always trying to encourage new people to join us."
