CAMPDEN and District Music Society's first concert of 2004 will feature pianist Bobby Chen, who was named young concert artist of the year in 2003.

Bobby Chen began his career at the Menuhin School, where he was chosen as soloist for a CD entitled Menuhin's Young Virtuosi, before touring Britain with Lord Menuhin and the Warsaw Sinfonia.

After studying at the Royal Academy, gaining first class honours and winning eight coveted awards, his career took him around Britain and abroad, including his native Malaysia.

He made his Wigmore Hall debut to great acclaim at the beginning of last year and was selected by the Countess of Munster Recital scheme, which sponsors brilliant young musicians.

His programme for the concert at Chipping Campden School in Cider Lane on Tuesday, January 20 will include Sonata Op. 164 in A minor by Schubert, Mendelssohn's Serious Variations, Britten's Notturno, Debussy's Preludes and Sonata in B minor by Chopin.

The concert starts at 8pm and tickets priced £10 will be available on the door on the night, with students and under 18s paying only 50p.

Annual membership, costing £24 for the remaining three concerts of the season, can be obtained from Campden Music Society, c/o treasurer, Walnut Cottage, Ebrington, Campden, GL55 6NL or by calling 01386 593085.
