A BROADWAY caravan site has received two prestigious national awards after a major investment programme to improve its facilities.

The Caravan Club site at the Old Goods Yard at Broadway Station picked up the Most Improved Site award and the Best Overall Site award at a ceremony at the Earls Court Caravan and Outdoor Leisure Show.

They were the first awards won by wardens Stephen and Joan Giblin since a £750,000 investment in the site two years ago.

Regional manager Gavin Pritchard said the number of pitches more than doubled and they now have 113 hardstanding pitches, as well as a new toilet block with modern facilities, new reception and roads.

Mr and Mrs Giblin have spent two seasons working at the Broadway site, which opened in 1981 and is only open to Caravan Club members.

They went to London with assistant wardens David and Lyn Hobbs to collect their two awards at a Caravan Club ceremony.

The Caravan Club awards recognise the role of caravan site wardens and reward aesthetic and environmental achievement.

Caravan sites were voted for by 5,000 Caravan Club members and those on the shortlist in each category were visited by a team of judges, including representatives of sponsors Calor and local tourist boards.

Gavin Tomlinson, caravan marketing manager for Calor, said: "We are really pleased with how well the awards have gone in their inaugural year and congratulations to Broadway.

"We would now ask even more club members to get out there and fill in the voting cards for the 2004 competition."
