WORCESTER III 3 SUTTON COLDFIELD 1

WORCESTER Hockey Club's third team turned on the style to triumph 3-1 over visiting Sutton Coldfield.

They started strongly and were rewarded when Mark Chambers broke the deadlock.

The second half saw Sutton become more menacing, but Worcester scored again through Glen Barnes from a short corner.

Sutton's pressure paid off with them getting a goal back, but Worcester's persistence was rewarded with John Mek-lain completing the scoring.

An improved display by Worcester led to a comfortable win against a weak Sutton Coldfield side.

Worcester opened the scoring with a bobbling ball in the 'D', Andy Hares tapping it home.

The second came shortly after, Ali Wilkinson being put through by York Senior who directed the ball into the goal past the goalkeeper.

Two further goals came from a clinical Andy Hall and Worcester finished the first half 4-0 up.

There were no more goals in the second half although Worcester were constantly threatening the Coldfield goal, creating countless chances.

NOTTINGHAM UNIVERSITY 6

Worcester went to play Nottingham University in the Coaching Solutions Midlands Premier League and were hit for six.

They failed to find their shape while the students were significantly improved from when they visited Worcester earlier in the season.

It was 3-1 at the end of the first half after a fine effort from Scott Seckham.

He received a short pass and then ran straight into their 'D', beating Nottingham for pace.

Worcester, missing several regular players, were always up against it in this friendly.

Worcester made a confident start and played good team hockey and this was reflected in a goalless half time scoreline.

In the second half, the visitors got stronger as Worcester tired and began to lose shape to their game.

Andy Taylor put in a great performance as a makeshift sweeper and Michael Simmans had an excellent game.

Mark Evans and Stephen Poole both impressed again in midfield but chances went begging while Sutton's pressure finally brought them two goals from open play and penalty flicks.

The men's men dominated the first half going 5-0 up by the interval.

However, the second half belonged to the ladies who scored three times while the men only managed another goal.

WORCESTER BADGERS 'A' 0 SUTTON COLDFIELD 2

Worcester found themselves against an older side again and succumbed to the combination of speed and strength.

Sutton scored two in the first half but Worcester held them in the second period.

However, it was a good all round display from the whole team with Gareth Bannister and Chris Simmonds outstanding in defence.

Bannister almost converted a penalty corner late in the second half forcing a brilliant save from the home goalkeeper.

WORCESTER BADGERS 'B' 0 STREETLY 0

Worcester performed well against a strong Streetly side and although neither side created many clear-cut chances there was no shortage of good intent.

The first half found Worcester mainly on the defensive but breaking forward through wings Tim Young and Alex Drew.

The second half saw determined Worcester in a more attacking frame of mind with Tom Coleman going close and Grant Snape proved to be a good target man.
