TRIES from Matt Willis and Malcolm Bourne fired Stourport to a tough 13-7 victory over Dudley Wasps in North Midlands Two.

Stourport dominated possession in the first half with better line-outs and a stronger scrum.

The first unconverted try arrived early on when several phases of play were spread across the backs for winger Willis to score in the corner.

They forced Wasps deeper into their own half and Richard Dorrell landed a drop goal after the ball was quickly worked from a scrum 10 yards out.

Stourport extended the interval score to 13-0 as they stole a loose ball at the base of a scrum and centre Bourne touched down at pace, taking several defenders with him.

Clearly rattled, Wasps lifted their game and Stourport had to replace three key players through injury but were determined to keep their defence tight.

The visitors grabbed a converted try in the corner from a rolling maul off a line-out but were denied any more points by their hard-working opponents.

Delighted Stourport demonstrated outstanding creativity and linkage between forwards and backs in their hardest test of the season so far.
