THE season is looking up for Kidderminster Carolians as they continued their rise up the Midlands Three West (North) table with a 29-5 win at Wolverhampton.

But coach Ian Bletcher admitted his determined players had been disappointed not to pile on more points at their off-colour Black Country opposition.

Chris Wright scored two rare tries, adding to efforts from Mark Cleeton and Matt Poole against a team who had beaten them 24-18 back in November.

Bletcher said: "Of course the players were happy to win but were unhappy they had conceded the try and not scored more points. It was good to travel away and defeat a side who had won at Kidderminster.

"We have had a very good turn-out at training, especially by second-team players. This is putting pressure on the boys in the firsts and they know there are no certain places in the team.

"We were a bit inconsistent in our decision making and in the use of the ball but we are setting targets and achieving them.

"Tom Oakes came in at the last minute and did what I asked of him. Andy Stooksbury continues to give us 100 per cent but for me Giovanni Iacono was our man-of-the match.

"Having said that, it was a great team performance and it will get better if we continue to work for results."

Wolverhampton have lost their way recently but missed a kick-able penalty in the opening minutes as KCs took time to settle.

Then following a long period of pressure, number eight Cleeton scored from a push-over on 19 minutes with the visitors pack proving better than their opponents, despite a size disadvantage.

With the wind at their backs, KCs turned on the power in the second half to quickly extend the 5-0 lead.

Stand-off Andy Stooksbury kicked a 35-yard penalty and then converting a try from prop Wright after a good drive.

Despite many appearances, Wright has not been known for his try-scoring but he then repeated the trick soon after with Stooksbury again adding the extra points.

A line-out close to the Wolverhampton line caused problems and lock Poole won possession to drive over for another converted try on 58 minutes.

KCs went off the boil and the game became scrappy with Wolverhampton grabbing a 70th-minute consolation.

KCs moved up another place in the division with a third league win in a row.

Saturday's was a closer game than the score suggests and played in a good spirit with tries from Owen Jones (two), Matt Greene, Russell Port and Iain Crockett (two).

Jones opened the scoring from a tremendous James Whitehouse break and then KCs' pack showed their dominance to add more points before half-time.

New signing Rob Buttling created a chance for skipper Greene to finish off in style at the start of the second period.

KCs continued to increase their lead but also had to defend sustained pressure from the visitors who were rewarded with a try.

Crockett also kicked two conversions and a penalty, while Mick Crocker added one conversion.

Port and Buttling impressed along with Paul Drew in a good all-round team display.
