PLANS to erect a large agricultural barn in Bricklehampton have been rejected by Wychavon district councillors until a more suitable site can be found.
The decision went against planning officers' recommendations.
Councillors felt the proposed site for the barn at Hall Farm, measuring 42.4m by 16.4, was contrary to a policy requiring new agricultural buildings to be located near existing ones.
Coun Malcolm Meikle said: "I think many members will feel there is an alternative if there is a will to find one. There is no suggestion from anybody that there is not a need for the barn, it is just the siting and I believe this is not the right site."
He added: "I hope the applicant accepts that there are other alternatives."
Members decided to refuse the application during the development control committee meeting last Thursday, but would be encouraging the applicant, JW Cook, to draw up alternative plans when a more appropriate site has been located.
