I WRITE this letter with a great deal of disgust at the county council and the First bus service.

As a keen reader of the Shuttle/Times and News, I found out that the bus service I regularly use, along with many other services, is possibly going to be discontinued. In my opinion this is totally unacceptable.

I regularly use the 192/292 service, which covers my journey on the Kidderminster to Cleobury service.

As I work and also study in Kidderminster, I find it difficult even catching the bus at 6.40pm, and have to arrange my work rota and college studio time around this.

From last week's newspaper, I found out the early evening and morning services will be cut. This just makes me feel completely let down.

The service at present is unreliable - sometimes too early, or way too late, or sometimes, as I found out just before Christmas, not arriving at all.

This forced me to pay out a £15 taxi fare to get back to my house in Far Forest, which is completely out of order.

I always thought that public transport was there to help people get on with their everyday life, not hinder them.

I have spoken to many passengers on the service which I use, and many people ask why the bus services do not have a dedicated service at night, which runs after 7pm, every two hours 30 minutes over certain days and weekends. Surely this would help many people who have to travel through Kidderminster, Bewdley, Far Forest and Cleobury.

If this cutting of services goes ahead, does this mean I will be forking out around £50 a week just to get home at night? I don't think so.

What happens if you are at college or work and depend on this? How do you expect people to afford taxis?

The people behind this farce are messing around with people's lives.

I can understand the money situation, but if problems are really that bad, surely they should try to find a solution for the people who depend on these services.

Why have a last bus service which goes from Kidderminster to Cleobury at 5.55pm on a Saturday, when people in Kidderminster finish work at 6pm?

Another question - why have a bus service from Kidderminster to Cleobury at 8.30pm on a Sunday, and not a Saturday, or even a week night?

It is just incredible how these people think about what the public really want.

E JOHN
