HOCKEY: A victory over Guildford kept Stourport off the bottom of the Higgins Group Indoor English League National Premier Division.

Stourport's 5-4 success condemned the Surrey side to the basement and the Wyre Forest side also sit above Bournville.

Dave Tuckett-Good (two), Phil Lashford (two) and Luke Edwards scored the goals as they hit back from being 3-2 down at half-time.

But Stourport lost 6-1 to St Albans, 5-3 to Surbiton and 11-2 to leaders Loughborough Students.

Shilen Tanna (three), Lashford, Edwards and Mark Moss bagged the goals in those matches.

Stourport suffered mixed fortunes in the Coaching Solutions Midland Invitation indoor hockey tournament at Kidderminster's Wyre Forest Glades the previous weekend.

They began with a 5-3 defeat against Dundee Wanderers before losing to Kingston-upon-Hull 5-3 but followed up with a 5-2 triumph over Swansea.

In the plate competition, they were thrashed 10-3 by St Albans and ended with an 8-6 win over Barford Tigers. Loughborough Students won the men's competition.

The ladies' firsts staged a magnificent late comeback to draw 3-3 at Bromsgrove in their first action since Christmas.

Holly Lashford and Louise Bagnall scored in the last five minutes to deny their hosts who had built up a two-goal lead.

Stourport, however, had all the pressure in the opening 20 minutes and went ahead when Katie Clowes' shot was deflected off Bagnall's stick into the roof of the net.

But Bromsgrove equalised on the half-hour mark with a shot from the right of the D going in at the near post.

Straight after the interval, their left winger made it 2-1 and the home side finished off a cross 10 minutes later after some good saves by goalkeeper Sarah Cranton.

The dramatic fightback saw Mellisa Kennedy pass to Vicky Whitehouse who was impeded in the area and Lashford made no mistake from the resulting short corner.

With one minute left, Whitehouse and Kennedy combined for Bagnall to send the ball through the keeper's legs.

Stourport 2nds 7 Badsey 1

Convincing Stourport hammered higher-ranked Badsey with Teri Baron giving them the lead on five minutes.

Karen McIntyre added a second from a short corner in the 20th minute and although Badsey pulled a goal back, Lucy Holmes restored the advantage before the interval.

Flowing hockey ended in a further Holmes strike and then Stourport stifled Badsey's play as Kate Bailey (two) and Jess Trundle rounded off the scoring.

Bloxwich 0 Stourport 3rds 3

The thirds were also in winning form, proving stronger through-out and having several attempts blocked by the keeper.

Sarah Cavendish, Jean Senior and Georgina Burns secured the victory.
