TENBURY town councillors have voted to keep the Burgage playground open, a decision which in flies the face of an earlier recommendation for it to shut indefinitely.
The full council overturned its parks and cemetery committee's decision, taken in December, to close the site until enough money could be raised to meet statutory health and safety regulations.
After an intense discussion on maintenance and health and safety issues, town councillors agreed a new proposal from Coun Maureen Pardoe that "liner, bark and labour can purchased and the cost taken from cash left over from refurbishment of the Burgage pavilion".
This was carried 11 votes for and one abstention.
