IT was a poignant moment for Jennifer and Warwick Gledhill, of Upper Rochford, when they met members of the Kyre Disabled Riding Group at the stables in Bockleton.

Their 24-year-old daughter Nicola, an experienced horsewoman, died while exercising horses in the lanes near Little Hereford in November.

At the 'Service of Thanksgiving' held in Rochford Church, a request was made for donations, in Nicola's name, to be sent to the local Riding for the Disabled Association.

A popular and friendly young woman, Nicola had many friends and colleges, particular from her university days at Swansea. Their generosity, and that of former employers npower in Worcester and Kington-based Tarmac Western, raised close to £2,000.

Group organiser Wendy Jones said: "We hope to buy a pony between 14 and 15 hands, that will carry weight, and is suitable for riding school and RDA use. It will go some way to replacing Shannon, who died last summer age 32 after 12 years loyal service."

Thanking everyone for their kindness and generosity, Mr and Mrs Gledhill said: "It would have been our daughter's wish that her life should help others and we thank all her many friends in Tenbury, her university and her workplace for making it happen.

"We have received over 100 letters and cards and these have brought us much comfort. We will be planting a tree where she fell at Upper Upton.

"We also hope to arrange for a wrought iron flower stand under the stained glass memorial window in Rochford Church to our son Keiron, who died in 1999."
