A MAN whose property has been repeatedly vandalised is disgusted students found carrying part of his damaged wall have only received police cautions.

Long-suffering Richard Delingpole of Henwick Road, St John's, has seen his six foot wall demolished three times, his car wing mirrors stolen on seven occasions, and his vehicle rear window smashed, within the last 13 months.

So when University College Worcester students were spotted on nearby Henwick Grove campus carrying a decorative stone pineapple, which was set in concrete on the wall, Mr Delingpole hoped for justice.

Stealing

But the three young men involved have been cautioned for "stealing by finding", meaning they did take objects from a crime scene, but were not found to have caused the actual damage.

"I've never heard of this caution before, it really is frustrating news," said Mr Delingpole.

"Stolen items were found on the students, but they said they didn't pull down the wall. Incredibly it seems they are being believed," he said.

Although the father-of-two cannot prove all the vandalism acts were caused by students, his house is on a route students regularly use to walk to campus from Worcester's pubs and clubs. And residents living along both Hylton Road and Henwick Road have complained of noise and damage caused by late-night revellers.

College registrar, John Ryan, said it was clear a trail of damage led back to the campus and that the students would receive further disciplinary action.

"The police have established they brought items back to campus, but could not prove they collapsed the wall," said Mr Ryan.

"We are following this up with a disciplinary hearing at the end of January, which will be heard by the vice principle."

Police spokesman Richard Bull said the damaged to the wall was still being investigated but added the cautioned students were not being held responsible for this.
