DINERS were "monkeying around" at a charity dinner last night to herald the start of the Chinese New Year.
A total of 70 people attended the meal, held at The Four Seasons Restaurant in Lowesmoor - helping to raise more than £4,000 for Worcester's St Richard's Hospice.
This year is the year of the monkey, which starts next week. Guests indulged in a glass of bubbly at a champagne reception, sponsored by HSBC, before tucking in to a feast of oriental dishes including sea bass and crispy duck.
There was also a raffle and a charity auction. The money raised will be used by the hospice, on Rose Hill, to work with patients suffering from life-limiting illnesses.
"We couldn't get any more people in - it was packed," said Marilyn Peachey, the hospice's director of fund-raising. "To have raised that much money in one evening is excellent."
