AS a longstanding member of the Ramblers' Association, I was astonished to read the reported comments of Richard Hemmings (Advertiser, December 17) regarding public rights of way in the Alvechurch area.
Having walked paths in just about every parish in Worcestershire, it is my opinion Alvechurch ranks among the best for public footpath maintenance.
If Mr Hemmings considers Alvechurch to be poor, he is in for an unpleasant surprise a little further south in the county.
Alvechurch paths are cared for by a group of village residents who, I feel, should be congratulated on their hard work and not subjected to carping and, I believe, unfounded criticism.
Unfortunately, the statement from Mr Hemmings may cause walkers to avoid Alvechurch and so miss a fine network of ways, which are well above average and are there to be walked and enjoyed.
