IT was with great pride that I sat at St Augustine's High School to see my son and many others receive their GCSE and A2 awards presented by our MP, Jacqui Smith.
It was interesting in her address that she didn't actually mention to them the costs of higher education although she did promote it, naturally.
She stood on a platform of no tuition fees in the 1997 election and no top- up fees in the 2001 election but has obviously seen the light since then.
I wonder now whether or not she will vote for tuition fees for the very same students at St Augustine's to whom she was promoting a university education.
We shall soon see when Parliament votes on the Higher Education Bill.
I wouldn't hold your breath that she will stand up for all those students who will now have to be saddled with even more debt than they are now.
What's a few thousand pounds more in the New Labour world?
