A community-spirited Spa resident has been recognised for his good work by a town company.

Roy Hewlett, the former poppy appeal organiser for Droitwich, recently retired after 26 years of service.

Excel, which operates the Safeway distribution centre on the Berry Hill industrial estate, recognised Roy for his years of tireless campaigning.

The management team presented Roy and his wife Ida with a large bottle of Scotch, a bouquet of flowers and a decanter and two whisky glasses at a special lunch held in his honour last Thursday.

Roy, who will continue to serve as Royal British Legion chairman, was delighted to be recognised by the company.

The St Mary's Road resident said: "I knew we were going for the lunch but the presentation came right out of the blue. It was very generous of the firm and my wife and I were thrilled."

Excel general manager Tony Wilson said: "I was delighted to be afforded the opportunity to commend Roy and we wish him well in his retirement."
