CAN I congratulate the Post Office on achieving a tick in the box marked "consultation" over branch closures in Worcester.

I am sure a grateful Government will award them a massive number of "Brownie points" for this zero impact exercise.

The Post Office tells us that none of the evidence presented during the consultation period by the public, or their own customers or local representatives, was sufficient to change their original intention to close five branches.

The fact that two out of the three branches on the Westside are to close, or that money was wasted on re-vamping the Lowesmoor branch so it could replace the Sidbury branch, which closed earlier last year, carried no weight.

Perhaps they would care to let us know what factors do carry weight so that we can all do better next time around.

Still, we can sleep safely in our beds as the Post office tell us that, nationwide, the majority of their customers live within half a mile of a branch.

I could wish this was true for their customers in Worcester.

COUNCILLOR BARRY MACKENZIE-WILLIAMS,

St Clement Ward.
