A MEETING was to be held to decide whether Bromsgrove should become a borough. There were opposing views on the situation. On one hand it was thought that a mayoralty would bring dignity to the town but on the other hand it was thought to be "municipal snobbery and social climbing".
BROMSGROVE District Council announced it was to buy a new refuse collection vehicle from Messrs Dennis Bros of Guildford at a price of £1,195.
WORK had now begun on the preparation of the site for the junior school on the Charford estate, youngsters had to attend Lickey School until their own school was ready. Bromsgrove High School had the best attendance records of 94 per cent and absences there were largely due to sickness.
FIREMEN had a busy weekend. A small fire occurred in a shed on King George Avenue, Sidemoor. A blaze in a hollow tree at Little Barnsley Farm needed to be extinguished half and hour later and earlier in the afternoon a chimney fire in Barnt Green required their attention.
