THE Alan Barnes Quartet performs at Inkberrow's Bull's Head tomorrow evening in the first "Inkberrow Jazz" event.

Organised by village businessman and jazz fan Roger Black, the appearance by the quartet is described as "quite a coup."

One of the country's top jazz musicians, Alan Barnes has dominated the UK Jazz Awards in recent years and is well known for his four years with the Humphrey Littleton Band. He has broadcast regularly with the BBC Big Band and Radio Orchestras and is a frequent face in the Laurie Holloway Band on TV's Parkinson.

He is also a prolific writer and arranger with his own record label and his current project is a collaboration with playwright Alan Plater entitled "Songs For Unsung Heroes" (of jazz) for which he has written and arranged all the tunes.

Among the many pieces to be played tomorrow will be The Red Door by Zoot Sims and Gershwin's Someone To Watch Over Me.

Also appearing as part of the Quartet is one of the world's top pianists David Newton, Matt Miles on double bass and Belgian born Sebastiaan de Krom on drums, best known for his backing of star vocalist Jamie Cullum.

There are only a few tickets left, priced £18, from 01365 793171 for the evening, which begins at 8pm.
