REDDITCH United boss Rod Brown has promised versatile wingback Nicky Clark he has a future at The Valley Stadium but Rob Sawyers' Reds career looks less certain.

Brown has offloaded Sawyers to fellow Dr Martens Western League outfit Stourport while Clark has been farmed out to Midland Alliance basement boys Stafford Rangers.

The Reds boss has given former Barnet man Sawyers orders to get fit and is concerned that he can't guarantee Clark games as his table toppers push for the championship.

Brown signed 24-year-old Sawyer from Nationwide Conference big guns Hereford United last October but after a six-game run, injury ruled him out of contention while versatile local lad Clarke, who joined Redditch from Wolves, has been victim of an increased 24-man squad.

"I've sent Rob Sawyer to Stourport because he's about a stone overweight and I can't get him fit," admitted Brown. "Nicky Clark is going to play in Stafford's reserves and he may be brought into their first team.

Nicky is a great lad and we don't want to let him go, so the idea is for him to go somewhere and play regularly and we can bring him back in the pre-season.

"I can say now that we're definitely bring Nicky back because he's a quality player but at the moment I'm trying to win a league and it's centre halves that win you leagues."

He added: "We've brought players in so I need to ease the wage bill but more importantly than that, it's not fair when you've got players who are not even given a strip on a Saturday. I'd prefer them to go and play somewhere else."

Meanwhile, Scott Voice, Richard Leadbeater and Matt Gardiner are all due to be recalled to the Reds starting line-up to face Evesham United on Saturday after recovering from respective injuries.
