MALVERN Hills Conservators are suggesting that people can commemorate their loved ones with stone waymarker signs.

For years, people have been sponsoring benches on the Malvern Hills to commemorate their relatives.

But with 360 benches already placed on the hills, the Conservators are being inundated with requests to put up more, and so have been looking at alternatives to the benches.

Now, for a donation of £100, relations can have the person's initials engraved at the bottom of a foot-high stone marker, which will direct walkers to various landmarks in the area.

Ian Rowat, the Conservators' chief executive, said: "They are for people who want to contribute to the hills or be associated with them and are a way of guiding people around without being too obtrusive."

Mr Rowat said that they had had a lot of interest in the stones and twelve had gone up already.
