NEARLY 100 local karate students gathered recently at Dyson Perrins School, Malvern for a one day training course and grading examination hosted by Mr Clayton Murrain (7th Dan), head coach to the English Wado-Ryu Sport Karate Association.
As well as three hours of intensive physical training, many local students attempted to gain higher certificate and belts (kyu). Most students train with Sensei Jounier Taylor (third Dan) who is proficient in several different fighting systems.
Among the successful candidates for local clubs in Malvern, Ledbury and Bromyard were: Benjy Hall, Steven Gleaves, Megan Hardwick, Andrew Daley, Priya Khaira-Hanks, Jamie Eaton, George and Charlotte Gibson, all of whom gained a first novice belt.
The Malvern club trains at Christ Church Hall in Avenue Road every Wednesday from 6pm and the Bromyard club meet at 6.30pm every Friday at the Heritage Centre. Ledbury EWSKA students train from 6.30pm on Tuesday at the Leisure Centre.
Everyone is welcome to come along and train from age six upwards, male or female, beginner to black belt.
