SPEEDING problems in Welland are to be addressed at a meeting in the New Year.

Residents and parish councillors feel that vehicles travel too fast along the B4208 through the village, ignoring the speed limit signs.

They now hope to gather support from other bodies and tackle the problem together.

Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council has invited representatives from a number of organisations to attend a meeting on January 28.

Police traffic management advisor Mike Digger and parish councillors from nearby wards are all expected to attend.

Paige Mitchell, from the Here-ford Slower Speeds Initiative, will also be there to explain how it has dealt with speeding problems in that city.

MP for West Worcestershire, Sir Michael Spicer, has also backed the plans and brought them to the attention of Worcestershire County Council last week.

Roy Locke, chairman of Little Malvern and Welland Parish Council, said: "We're not getting anywhere at the moment. We've had more and more signs put on the road and yet I was overtaken three times this weekend driving through the village.

"I think it's getting worse, but instead of a very negative response, we are doing something positive."
