WHILE I applaud the efforts of Mrs Davy and the Malvern Access Group to create a sensory garden, I feel the site chosen in Victoria Park is not the most suitable.

Unlike Mrs Davy, I walk through the area on most days and am saddened by the regular vandalism taking place there. The litter and graffiti is removed by council staff early every morning; however no one seems to be responsible for the maintenance of the sensory garden, where the plants are uprooted on a daily basis. The graffiti on the concrete base of the notice is a permanent reminder and the edges of the beds are used by skateboarders.

On Friday, November 21, when Mrs Davy's letter appeared in your newspaper, I had in fact replanted four herbs, which had been left on the pathways. I have also replaced missing plants with some from my own garden to fill the empty spaces.

Unless someone is prepared to water and maintain the garden, there seems to be little point in continuing the project on this site, which would appear to be too near to the children's play area and teenagers' evening meeting area.
