THE highlights of the year for Dyson Perrins CE High School were recounted by headmaster Peter Buchanan at the annual prizegiving ceremony on Friday.

During his speech, Mr Buchanan asked parents and pupils to remember what had been their most satisfying moments in the last 12 months.

"For some of our pupils, it may have been the moment they realised that they had won a prize, for others, it may have been when they were picked for a team," he told listeners.

He went on to list many of his own most memorable moments, notably the progress of students in examinations compared with the national average.

A school Mothers' Day service, recorded by BBC Hereford & Worcester, and a production of Bugsy Malone were among the highlights mentioned.

Also important was the completion of the new sixth form block and performing arts centre, which Mr Buchanan described as part of the "on-going development of a good and improving school".

"The really satisfying moment comes from identifying the names of the pupils represented by points on the graph well above the national expectation line. Some of these pupils are prize-winners today.

"They are not necessarily the cleverest pupils in the school but they all share one common attribute, they were determined."

He thanked teachers and volunteers for their dedication and praised the effort that pupils had made over the past twelve months.

"When I open the paper and see a familiar smiling Dyson Perrins face, celebrating another achievement, I always feel good," he said.

"I may never have taught the pupil in question, but we all contributed to the environment in which they learned and the teachers were part of the team."

He finished by saying: "Let's never be satisfied and always strive for more, but let's also enjoy those satisfying moments. To pupils, keep up the hard work, you will succeed. To parents, support your children, be proud of them. To all, you are part of a great school, take pride in it."
