More than 40 works by members of the Birmingham Pastel Society are on display at the Malvern Theatres.

Work by 14 artists, displaying a wide range of style and technique, will be on show until the end of January.

Artists from around the Midlands are involved in the exhibition; nudes by Brian Fletcher and a range of landscapes by Malvern artist David Prentice are among the work on display.

Bill Nicholls, owner of the Cowleigh Gallery, in Malvern, and visual arts adviser to the theatre, said: "Pastel has become a very popular medium over the past few years. The Birmingham Pastel Society is a very sought-after organisation. I approached them some time ago about an exhibition here.

"I think it's very important to stage professional exhibitions, to make people aware of what is happening in the contemporary arts scene."

Large exhibitions are staged biennially by the society and several smaller exhibitions take place throughout the year, along with workshops for the 38 exhibitors currently in the society.

Society chairman and exhibitor Tony Miller said: "We're thrilled with the exhibition. We put our work on display in the library in Malvern seven or eight years ago but this is the first time that we have exhibited at the Malvern Theatres. Many of the artists exhibiting have links with Malvern and have used the landscape in their work.

"I am very fond of Malvern myself, as an art lover and a music lover. I am very happy to exhibit here."

The exhibition will be open every day in the circle and stall bars at the Theatres.
