THE service at St John the Evangelist Church, Pauntley, on Sunday, December 7, was parish communion conducted by the rector, Reverend Pat Phillips. She took as her subject John the Baptist. The readings were by Mr Eric Solesbury and the sidesman was Mrs Jane Bristow. The rector lit the second of the Advent candles. Mrs Anne Solesbury was ready to play the organ but unfortunately there was a power cut so the singing was unaccompanied. Power was restored only after the service had ended.

Warm clothes and torches will be the order of the day for the Pauntley carol singing party. There is an earlier start than in previous years: 6.30pm at Pauntley Memorial Hall in Brand Green. Everyone is welcome. The message is we could do with a few more voices. Proceeds will be divided between St John the Evangelist Church, Pauntley, and a charity to be decided. The date is Friday, December 19. Contact Eric or Anne on 01531 820230 for further details.

For well over 30 years, Pauntley ladies have had a sewing group which meets monthly. The December meeting was on Wednesday, December 3, at the home of Mrs Jane Bristow at Hook Cottage. The winner of the raffle was Mrs Doris Hemmings. Coffee and mince pies were enjoyed. There is no sewing meeting in January. The next one is on Wednesday, February 4, 2004.
