A DISTRICT nurse has raised £2,500 for Acorns Children's Hospice and is now preparing for an Amazon adventure.
Sixty-year-old Mary James had to generate the huge sum to take part in the sponsored trip to South America.
Intrepid Mrs James, of Geneva Close, Claines, near Worcester, invited people to choose a calendar date for £10 to go into a draw to generate the funds.
And with backing from Worcester Rugby Club, individuals and businesses throughout the city, she reached the total she needed.
The winning date was drawn at the Bath Road hospice site yesterday and Mrs James's friend and colleague, district nurse Alison Want, had the £1,000 prize- winning ticket.
"I'd just like to thank everyone who has supported me and sponsored me in this challenge. The hospice is a really worthwhile cause to raise money for," said Mrs James.
Mrs James has now been putting in extra walking practice to practise for the big trip in February.
The money will help the trust in its attempt to raise the final £1m of the £4m needed to complete the children's hospice.
