A DISCO and non-uniform day will take place today to help raise funds for a skateboard park in memory of teenager who died from a rare leukaemia strain.

In October, the Evening News reported how the family of Kyle Salmon hoped to keep his spirit alive by building the much-needed facility in St Peter's.

Sports-mad Kyle died at Birmingham Children's Hospital, aged 13, within a week of being diagnosed with the aggressive form of leukaemia.

Since his death in May, the donations have flooded into a fund set up in his memory.

Around £1,200 was pledged after Kyle's mum Vanessa asked for contributions to be made to his youth club Angels in Exile, in Lower Wick.

But the family, who live in Kempsey, believe around £30,000 to £50,000 is needed for the skate park, and they plan to continue fund-raising to make sure Kyle's friends have somewhere to play and practice.

Pupils can bring their skateboards on the non-uniform day today.

The disco, for Year 7, 8 and 9 takes place at the school tonight from 7pm till 10pm.

At 9pm, helium balloons will be released with individual messages to Kyle attached.
