THE car park at a Kidderminster school is to be extended, despite concerns that felling two trees to make extra room for cars sends "the wrong message" to pupils.

The work at Comberton Middle School in Borrington Road involves providing an extra five parking spaces for staff and visitors, making a total of 34.

Worcestershire County Council granted itself permission for the development, despite objections from a neighbour concerned the scheme included felling two mature sycamore trees to create enough turning space.

The neighbour said he was particularly concerned it "sends a message to our children that cars are more important than trees and suggests we cannot work with nature".

The school has more than 40 members of staff and their cars were only accommodated now by double parking and by cars spilling over onto grassed areas and footpaths, a report to the council's planning and regulatory committee said.
