SIMON Andrews, one of the hottest young talents to emerge from this year's British Supersport Championship, has signed a deal to ride for Yamaha-backed outfit Piranha Racing next year.
The Cheltenham-based team is a partnership between Yamaha dealership Dave Parry Motorcycles and engine tuners Race Techniques.
Rob Ferris, from Dave Parry's, said that he was very excited about his involvement with the new team.
"Race Technqiues and ourselves first got involved with Simon and Red Piranha Racing this year.
"He enjoyed a fantastic season, establishing himself as one of the best 600 riders in the country. We have now stepped up our involvement in the sport and are totally committed to giving him the best shot possible
at the Supersport title."
The 2004 championship is shaping up to be even more competitive. The team's championship aspirations will be boosted by official backing from Yamaha and an unchanged R6.
"We will be utilising the same R6 bikes Simon used to such good effect this year," said Andy Colbourne of Race Techniques.
"This allows us to consolidate the work we have already undertaken and continue development throughout the winter."
Andrews, who lives in Wickhamford, reported that he was looking forward to another season on a Yamaha.
"I am delighted to be riding for Dave Parry's and Race Techniques next season, Andrews declared.
"The R6 proved to be an extremely strong package and I'm looking forward to the challenge of bettering my championship position of third by having a real crack at the title in 2004."
