ALTHOUGH the game is admittedly getting on in age there is no denying that Silent Hill 2 is one of the finest fear evoking games available for any console.
James Sunderland is a traumatised young man and is lured to Silent Hill when his wife, who supposedly died three years ago, writes to him requesting he goes to their special place.
Upon arriving in Silent Hill it is clear that something is very wrong about the town, for one it is completely deserted.
Then the true horror sets in as bizarre forms of flesh try to devour and decapitate James. There is no explanation as to why they have taken a sudden dislike to him but, whether it's a hound-like creature or a crippled and diseased nurse, they would rather him dead than alive.
It's not just the creatures that are obscure in Silent Hill but the characters that James meets. Even the most innocent seem to be hiding something.
The graphics are fuzzy and deliberately out of focus to add to the unnerving experience.
Silent Hill 2 is the epitome of horror from the background music to the graphics to the gameplay.
This game will undoubtedly change your life for better or for worse. It's not for the squeamish!
