AN unemployed Evesham man with a history of depression took an overdose of anti-depressants and then rang his daughter to tell her what he had done, an inquest heard.

Michael Wilks was found collapsed beside his bed in his bedsit accommodation in Bewdley Street.

The divorced 42-year-old was taken to Worcestershire Royal Hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Speaking at the inquest into his death last Tuesday, Worcestershire coroner Victor Round said Mr Wilks had talked about taking his life on several occasions over the two weeks before he died.

He said that on Saturday afternoon, October 25, Mr Wilks telephoned his daughter, saying he had taken all of his anti-depressant tablets. Paramedics were subsequently alerted.

"Casualty staff at the hospital found various bits of paper in his pocket - one being a hand-written note which has been described as a suicide note," Mr Round said.

He added that a toxicology report had revealed the cause of death was high levels of dothiepin, an anti-depressant, in Mr Wilks' system.

Reading from a report from PC Helen Griffiths, he said Mr Wilks had suffered depression for the past ten years and had been on dothiepin for the past six weeks. Mr Round recorded a verdict that he took his own life.
