I READ with interest the article entitled "Parents vow not to switch schools" in your November 13 issue.
I wholeheartedly support the parents involved in their fight to keep Stone First School open, and hope they are successful.
However, I felt the article reflected badly on Spennells First School, the inference being it was not a desirable place to send your children.
The only reason given for the drastic option of moving out of the area appeared that the parents wished their children to go to "a small Church of England school". Why then was private education also given as a preferred option?
This year I had the choice of sending my child to Stone or Spennells and opted for the latter.
I can say, without reservation, that in our case Spennells was an excellent choice.
The standards of teaching (secular and religious) and discipline at Spennells are very high and continual improvement is being achieved, as the school always reacts very positively to Ofsted recommendations.
I cannot help but think that the decision not to send children to Spennells lies more with perceived status than educational capability.
