I WISH to ask two questions concerning the county council's education review for Wyre Forest.
The first is to ask for whose benefit the review took place? Answer - apparently not the children currently in Wyre Forest schools.
The Government insists that reviews take place and local authorities carry them out. Worcestershire has up to £100 million to spend on new building (taxpayers' money) and, therefore, has to be seen to have adopted a building programme.
But new building work does not constitute educational improvement.
There will be massive disruption with the new Wyre Forest schools building programme, and no guarantee whatsoever that educational standards will improve.
My second question is to ask why the education officers and councillors allowed a document to go forward which advocated school closures? Why did they not have public consultation first, and then write their document?
The answer, of course, is because they will spend as much of the £100 million as possible on new buildings to get a gold star award from Government for mis-spending taxpayers' money on something nobody wants.
Finally, we are about to behold a disaster for education. If Wolverley High School closes, comprehensive education will have been dealt a fatal blow.
