YOUNGSTERS from a city amateur dramatic society are about to hit the road to entertain residents in homes for the elderly with their cabaret.
During January, February and March, teenagers from Worcester Operatic and Dramatic Society Youth Section will be visiting residential homes in Worcester and Malvern to perform All That Jazz.
The show features songs from Chicago, Chorus Line and others made famous by the Rat Pack, including Me and My Shadow, New York, New York and They Can't Take That Away From Me.
Fifteen WODYS' members, aged 11 to 17, take part in the cabaret and this year, they have been asked to do more performances than ever before, including two charity events - one at Malvern Festival Theatres and the other at The Swan, Worcester.
"This year, WODYS were asked to accept more bookings than can be fitted in. Homes for the elderly from Warndon to Kempsey and St John's to Malvern are among the venues. There's also a visit to a senior citizens' club and a performance to a cancer support group," said David Humphries, WODYS chairman.
As well as taking part in the cabaret, the youngsters, and the rest of WODYS' 70 members, are preparing for their annual musical next summer.
The show is Return to the Forbidden Planet, which the group is staging at the Swan Theatre, from Tuesday, August 3, to Saturday, August 7.
