Yate & South Glos II 2,
Bretforton 6
SATURDAY'S final league game before the festive break produced end to end excitement with both teams making good use of the breaks created from their midfielders.
Player of the match Sophie Corbett was first to put her team on the score-sheet courtesy of a fine strike from just inside the D that gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Yate were quick to recover and draw level with a goal that slipped through keeper Vicky Webb.
Corbett was again on the ball as she picked up a cross ball from Deb Slatter and neatly tucked it behind the keeper.
Although Bretforton had regained the lead their defenders were still kept busy as Yate kept up the pressure.
Jane Wheeler, Bobbie Handley and Lorna Beddis all worked well together clearing the ball to the midfielders who seemed to find a lot of space and took every opportunity to attack.
Lisa Workman picked out fellow forward Gilly Wright who slammed in her side's third goal of the half.
Bretforton were now in cruise mode and their skilful play took full toll on the hosts.
Sarah and Julie Hall swiftly moved the ball around the Yate defence and it was the latter who executed a fourth goal from just within the D.
Corbett then fired in the goal of the game that left the home keeper dazzled as the ball into the top left hand corner of the goal.
In the last ten minutes, from numerous short corners, Deb Slatter slotted in the sixth before Yate pulled a goal back with a penalty flick.
The match ball was sponsored by Birds with Brushes - Painters and Decorators. Bretforton visit Stourport for a friendly on Saturday.

FOUR first half goals helped the visitors to a comfortable win in the Cotswolds.
Accurate passing around the D regularly found the stick of Faye Marchant and eye for goal proved too much for the Ilmington defence.
The hosts' youngsters replied before the break and a solo effort after the restart further reduced Bidford's advantage.
However, a home comeback was halted once Penny Evans had struck Bidford's fifth to complete a fine win.
