YOUNGSTERS and parents are being urged to follow some simple crime prevention tips to keep new bicycles safe over Christmas.
A West Mercia police spokesman said: "Bikes are very popular Christmas presents and there is nothing more disappointing than the theft of a brand new bike.
"If someone in the family gets a new bike, remember to write down the make, model and colour as well as the frame number and a general description of the bike and to keep those details somewhere safe.
"It's worth spending a little extra on a good quality bike lock - £15 or £20 is a small investment to secure a bike that cost £300 or more."
The spokesman added: "Make sure children know how to use the locks properly, by locking both wheels and the frame of the bike to a fixed post or object.
"It's also worth doing this overnight in the shed or garage as this will make it extra difficult for a thief to take it."
