DESPITE being offered a chance to find out the true feelings of the town's people via the ballot box, the Tories ran away from democracy and imposed a 30 pence bus fare on the elderly and disabled for every journey they make.
Councillor Pat Wilson said people of West Ward would rather the disabled and elderly paid for their travel so they could have a better bus service. I hope she consulted you all and that you get one.
Other Tories said there were not enough high council taxpayers in Redditch to pay for the service, so they chose to rob the most vulnerable instead.
Gavin Smithers blamed the county council for cutting subsidies but he failed to mention the Tories run the county council.
The final insult to all of you who benefited from the scheme was that both the Tories and the Liberal Democrats voted against holding a referendum on the issue.
A vote against democracy?
Those of us who really do care for those of you who benefited from the free scheme will do our utmost to ensure these uncaring councillors will pay the price of their selfishness at next June's local elections.
